Back to the back to big apple once again, this time for one of my favorite producers, Black Milk, and the Gary, Indiana and XXL Freshmen 10 representative, Freddie Gibbs. Even though Freddie Gibbs is headlining, i’m going to see Black Milk, Freddie Gibbs is just a bonus…a very nice bonus these days though. I had thought about doing a XXL Freshmen Mixtape before I had even heard about that…mixtape DJ Whoo Kid dropped…i’m not even going to lie that mixtape sucked. Sorry, Whoo Kid, I do like a lot of your mixtapes so I hope we can still be friends. I’m just saying any casual fan would probably think this freshmen class sucked if they listened to that mixtape. When in fact all of them are pretty talented and unique. Maybe it’s almost time for my own little freshmen post, but anyway I skimmed through Freddie Gibbs’ The Labels Trying To Kill Me and I really didn’t know what to expect nor did I give it a fair listen. So I figured what better opportunity to get back and visit his music than during the release of his new music project and upcoming concert. So I threw Str8 Killa No Filla in after giving some other stuff a shot at the rotation…and shit from the first song I was impressed. I was even more impressed by him than some of the more prominent artists that were in my CD changer at the time too, and the sad part is when I originally told people about the mixtape no one cared ***shrugs***. FYI, 3 members of the NRNR team, Phrillz, and Ccelli all fucked with it…and they didn’t even hear the whole mixtape. So really do yourself a favor and give this shit a listen and if you like it cop the EP and check out the rest of his mixtapes below too.

Like I said Freddie Gibbs is a great bonus, but I would have went just to see Black Milk and Bum Ass Rapper X. For those that don’t he’s the producer/rapper from the D like another more ballyhooed gentleman by the name of Kanye West. Personally, I think Black Milk might be better, he definitely has a crazy catalog production wise he just may not have work with the same big name artist. However, the work he’s done with the likes of Slum Village, Royce, and Elzhi just to name a few is all stellar. Also I think he is a slightly better rapper, I always really saw Kanye as more of a guy that made great songs as oppose to the lyrical monster that some made him out to be, not saying that Black Milk is the most lyrical guy. I feel like Kanye has improved a lot recently, but I feel like early on he got a pass because he was more conscious and brought something new to the game at the time. Nonetheless, I think Black Milk deserves similar recognition, i’m eagerly looking forward to the album even though I wish they would have stuck with the original cover art below, here’s the single and promo video.
First, up is a New Music mixtape Black Milk dropped on his Band Camp, I did some finagling with it and added all of the latest stuff from him. Keep Going and Don Cornelius are probably my two favorite songs from him right now, but I fucks with the single too. Then, we got a couple more Black Milk mixtapes and some stuff he has done with a couple other dudes you may or may not have heard of. I haven’t listened to CALTroit yet, but I fucks with Bishop Lamont no homo so i’m sure i’ll like it. I really liked Rapper Pooh (of Little Brother) Purple Tape, but there is really no surprise there. A Black Milk produced mixtape inspired by Prince…I couldn’t have downloaded that shit fast enough. That was actually my first introduction to Little Brother too and if you haven’t picked up there new album I highly recommend that shit or really any of their shit for that matter. Without further ado Mr. Black Milk.

You can check out some more Black Milk music at his Band Camp page found here, but i’ll leave you with one of my favorite Black Milk songs.
Oh yeah!!! I can’t wait for the Random Axe Album too…which is the group consisting of Sean Price, Guilty Simpson, and Black Milk for those that didn’t know. Even though the whole Slum Village situation ended very sadly i’m hoping that will at least mean more Elzhi and Black Milk songs too.
