Update: I originally wrote this back when Jakk of All Tradez dropped and shortly after I met Jakk Frost on the show…well actually I think one of my bosses jumped the gun before I could write this.  No surprise there, though, because i’m always in my old world.  Anyway, I figured I would bring this post back with the release of the new Jakk Frost mixtape Mekka N The Sole Brother. I actually intended to get this finished around Thanksgiving when the video for Chasin’ Doe dropped but I was in the circle of death that week…no seriously.  I figure better late than never at all though.  I was already a big fan of Jakk Frost since college, even before I realized that he was nothing short of a Philly Legend.  However, through meeting him and just being in the same room and listening to him speak I have even more respect for him.  He probably doesn’t know it, but I lot of things he has said have been very influential to be in my growth in not only the music industry but also as a person.  Of course, you do get a couple good Jakk Frost rants about DJs, music, etc.  as well.  However, i’ve come to expect those things from Jakk Frost at this point lol.  I was actually a bit wary when I was first working on this post because I always hate giving music away for free that artist are trying to sell.  Especially, artist I really like and respect like Jakk Frost.  Which is always funny because people will send me something…not very often for whatever reason…I guess it’s easier to send there music to people they don’t know and who don’t give a fuck.  Which is actually a nice segue into Jakk Frost and our Benja Styles started working together.  Jakk Frost understood unlike so many ignorant rappers that anybody that can potentially help your career is someone you should be willing to work with.  So anyway I text Jakk Frost and he calls me right back lol and he’s like no it’s cool you can post everything.  The people that really want to support me will buy the music.  I couldn’t agree more…it’s always nice when artist understand that as well.  I don’t know how many times I talk to an artist, sometimes getting ready to release they’re first mixtape or album and they’re trying to sell that shit.  While legends and great rappers can’t even really sell they’re music like they once could these days and they’re also so many truly great artists giving free music.  Yet you, random rapper X, are going to sell your album or mixtape and you expect me to buy it.  It’s like why the fuck should I buy your album?  Who the fuck are you?  A lot of veteran rappers understand how the music industry has changed these days and some young rappers do as well, which is always refreshing, but for the most part it’s like i’m speaking a second language.  What do you mean I shouldn’t sell my first mixtape or album and I shouldn’t put it on iTunes???  Don’t you know i’m spitting hot fire over all original beats!!! ***sigh***  So it is for that reason that when I went back and re-did this post I included Paypal links to all of Jakk Frost’s music as well as iTunes and Amazon links when they were available.  So please if you like the music show your support, but if you have never listened to any Jakk Frost music or don’t buy music than by all means download it instead.  Better to gain a fan than a $1 sometimes.  I guess that about wraps it up though, this was one of the first real full on stories I wrote so it only seems right that I when I went back and posted this again I called it such.  A lot my posts unfold like stories and in some cases i’ve actually meant a few of the people I write about so it makes sense.  Hopefully, time permitting you’ll start seeing a lot more of my unique stories with a bunch of music in the future.  With that said I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes in recent memory from none other than Jakk Frost himself, “In music there are no facts only opinions”.  I think we can all agree that Jakk Frost’s music is great and has been so for a while though.  Check the links below for the new mixtape along with the video for Chasin’ Doe and enjoy all the old music and my story.

In most cases I find if you like one mixtape or album from an artist it’s highly likely you going to like some of their other shit.  In the case of Jakk Frost, which i’m a big fan of, i’m sure this will be the case.  I didn’t even realize he had so many mixtapes and I didn’t know who Benja Styles was or even realize he was the same Benja Styles that has worked with Jakk on so many mixtapes even after I met him…smh.  Like Killer The Dog, the son of the 3 legged bitch of a mother from Half Baked, I think you don’t fully understand who an artist is or the artist they have become…until you go back through their collection.  For me I first heard Jakk Frost on Class In Session.

I remember I loved that song in college.  It had a great concept combined with Frost’s perfect voice and hypnotic flow.  I was always bumped that shit when in came on the radio back in the coupe…you know back when I used to listen to the fucking radio or drove a small ass car.  Which reminds me dudes buying them small sedans thinking you stunting…STOP IT!!!  YOU LOOK STUPID!!!  I know you ain’t comfortable in that small ass Benz or Beamer, just do yourself a favor and by something bigger in your price range.  Ladies please don’t give these stupid ass dudes ass too, stop encouraging them dudes.  What you can do is give me the ass, you’ll have more leg room in the Altima too.  Anyway, shortly after Class In Session came the Step In The Name of Love Remix if I remember correctly…Marijuana affects the memory…uhhh I mean hanging out with a bunch of rappers and producers that are always smoking affects the memory.  Like I said before I don’t drugs because their bad for your body, up with hope down with dope.  I just drink, but i’m sure that’s not really good either…fuck it they don’t call me Doc Holliday for no reason.

Damn listening to this tape now as I type this takes me back.  If I remember my timeline correctly, right around this time I had stopped fucking with the dude on 11th Street that used to sell mixtapes.  I usually knew about mixtapes before he even got them in stock, those were back in the days when the R.I.A.A./labels didn’t understand what mixtapes were exactly…fucking dumbasses.  I remember once seeing his stand get ran down on, karma is a muthafucka.  After unsuccessfully scouring the internet for Frost’s music I randomly I stumbled on to U Don’t Know Jakk and quickly copped that shit.  Not just the digital copy but the CD too, man have times changed.  That was partly why I fell out of touch with the local scene and as a result mixed out on a lot of good music, but I usually had so much music I didn’t even notice.  Those days are done, though, thanks to great sites like http://www.allflamerz.com/ I can stay more in touch aside from my grinding.  I hope we do our part as well to bring the local scene to the people as well.

My ex-best friend ole John C. Reilly in Talladega Nights ass nigga, we ain’t friend anymore because of your actions…excuse me…used to tell me Frost used to come through the same barbershop we went to.  Well I still go there when i’m not looking like a homeless person, big shout out to JB, Daryl, Joey and the whole Philly Cuts crew.

It made sense since he was from West Philly and JB probably knows more rappers than me, but we never ran into each other.  It was probably for the best, I probably would have embarrassed myself.  You will be happy to know when I finally met Jakk and Freeway for that matter on the show I didn’t even embarrass myself, maybe there is hope for me after all ***Tiger Woods fist pump***.  The Tiger Woods fist pumps seems so funny now that Tiger be running through hoes lol.  So I told Jakk I would do my part as I always try to do for any artist I like to get his stuff on the site.  Especially, the ones that I feel like don’t get the recognition I feel they deserve.  So, of course, I was happy to hear Freeway brought him on to his Free Money Records as was Shizz (aka Data that’s my producer/engineer for the new people out there).  He’s also a big fan and really respects the fact that Jakk does a lot of his recording and such himself.  I remember seeing the video but usually I just worry about the music for the most part, so if you are looking for every nut ass video of rapper x beefing with rapper y you are not going to find that shit from me.  So anyway fast forward to present ***insert Big O terrible fast forward sound*** Benja sent me the link this morning for Jakk of all Tradez and I gave that shit the immediate burn to CD treatment.  Which is usually reserved for shit I really fuck with and want to hear on the drive into work.  Music is my coffee in the morning, too bad my iPod is old as fuck and my iPhone is synced with my work computer.  I definitely fucks with it and hopefully you do to along with all the rest of his music.  For you muthafuckers not in the loop we got various dudes co-signing Jakk Frost, too, DJ Kay Slay, Don Cannon, Benja Styles, Freeway, and of course your truly.  So does yourself a favor and take a listen, thank us later no drake.  Also look out for the video of the freestyle session coming soon, they killed that shit.  Which reminds me I need to holla at the lovely BBC girls about getting that joint with Freeway spitting over their intro.  They are lovely, too, my man Ismael almost walked into a wall checking them out last night lol.
